The book describes how Ford introduced the assembly line, reduced working hours, a minimum wage, the five-day work week, etc. at the beginning of the previous century.
Manufacturing methods such as “Just-in-Time” (JIT) manufacturing are described. The JIT methodology was later on adopted by Toyota in Japan and is in common use today amongst many large manufacturing concerns in the world. Ford’s story and business philosophy is brilliantly chronicled in this biography. Much of Ford’s wisdom has been forgotten today and therefore entrepreneurs and business managers alike would do well to take another look at this classic work on business management.

The then 40-year-old novelist wanted to see the war first hand as a soldier, but the Victorian army balked at having a popular author wielding a pen in its ranks. The army did accept him as a doctor and Doyle was knighted in 1902 for his work with a field hospital in Bloemfontein.
Doyle’s vivid account of the battles is in part thanks to the eye-witness accounts he got from his patients. Doyle has thoroughly mastered the details of the campaign, and presents them in a form that can be easily understood. Furthermore, his descriptions of the various engagements are masterpieces of graphic writing.

The Sea-Hawk

The Story of an African Farm
The Story of an African Farm (published 1883 under the pseudonym Ralph Iron) was South African author Olive Schreiner’s first novel.
This book is generally recognized as one of the first feminist novels and also as the first great South African novel. This pioneering work caused quite a stir when it first appeared and it transformed the shape and course of the late Victorian novel. Schreiner unflinchingly deals with her society’s greatest fears, namely the loss of faith, the dissolution of marriage, and women’s social and political independence.
The Story of the Other Wise Man
During the time of the birth of Jesus, a fourth Wise Man, Artaban, sells all his possessions to buy three precious jewels which he hopes to present to the newborn Christ Child. Although he planned to journey with the other three Magi to Bethlehem, he is delayed and fails to rendezvous with them.
Artaban spends his whole life searching for the Christ, and in his search he gives away one, then two, and finally all three of his jewels to help others, but in the end his quest is fulfilled in unexpected ways.
